My poor bubba girl....

has a broken leg. Only a week away from her first birthday. I feel terrible.... I was busy cleaning up afternoon tea dishes and getting ready for dinner when i realised it was FAR TOO QUIET. Normally with a baby and toddler around your feet you can't hear yourself think but quiet is definitely worse. I thought they were playing in the playroom but quiet means something else. Then i heard the clunk, clunk, clunk of someone falling down the stairs. Then the wail.... It seems one little brother had opened the door for baby Tessa to escape then gently closed it and together they had scaled right to the top of the staircase. Who knows what happened up there but poor Tessa fell half way down. It could have been worse - there's tiles at the bottom - but regardless, it was a big fall and something didn't seem quite right about her cry. So I got tea on quickly while we waited for Nan to come and then it was off to the hospital. The waiting room was empty (When does that EVER happen???!!!) and we were seen straight away. They were more concerned about a head injury but i knew that wasn't a concern - I was just so worried about her right leg. Well, 2 nurses, a doctor and an x-ray or 2 later, my poor bubba girl is diagnosed with a fractured femur - top inner part. Apparently babies don't need casts so it's just pain relief and restricted mobility... Poor Kieren is devastated he's stuck in the US and can't get home. But i'm coping as best i can. Trying to be patient, patient and more patient even with sleep deprivation and no husband home. So next week we'll know more after a follow up at the Children's hospital.

This photo i took the morning before she fell. Guess she won't be riding the fire engine for a month or two now.....

11 months....

It's been 11 months since I first introduced my 18 month old son to his brand new baby sister.... And today is the first day they played together! I mean - REALLY together... they cooked and stirred with plates and utensils in the home corner and then chased each other (crawling! ) and giggling around the room. Ok so there were a few "stacks on" (Jesse) and hair-grabbing episodes (TEssa) that needed refereeing but on the whole they were great. Ahhhh brings smiles to this Mummy's face.....
