my baby turns 2.

So here it is at long last! The day my baby turned 2... We packed the day with all her favourite things - pikelets for morning tea with her second cousin; dinner of spaghetti bolognese and carrot cake with aunts and uncles; and lots of time to play with mum and dad's present of a play kitchen! We made this out of bits and pieces we salvaged from around ours and my dad's garages. Not bad at all!! they've had so much fun with it - including Tessa's crazy brother who's a right humorous little fellow at the moment! (yes that is a saucepan lid on his head. He was launching into his rendition of "I'm a little teapot!")

Tessa enjoyed her birthday so much that everyday (yes it is almost 7 weeks later) she still asks: "is it Bubba's birfday?" , "where's bubba's birfday cake?" !!

Sleeping.

My little baby's last sleep in her cot. Bless - she looks like such a little angel all cosy and snug with her wrap and teddy. This moment is bittersweet - i'll be dismantling the cot and selling it ... such a momentous occasion after 4 little babes.

Crocodile tears and pouts

it has been said "you should never negotiate with terrorists or two year olds". I think that person knew what they were talking about. Lucky this mummy has had 3 terrorists two year olds before and had some practise. Dinner became breakfast and mummy won the battle ...for now. Round two tomorrow. And don't get sucked in by those big blue eyes - she can already bat an eyelid and has the puppy look down pat ;)

Lately...

Two month ago I visited the skin cancer clinic having a vague suspicion that a sore on my head was not “nothing to worry about” as a GP had told me some months before. The doctor confirmed verbally that day that the sore was most definitely a skin cancer but was small (approx 5mm x 6mm) and that he could remove it at the clinic in a fortnight’s time.

A fortnight later I went back to have it removed, only to have him say that it was much larger (2 x 3cm) and ulcerated and he was unable to remove and would need to refer to a surgeon to have it removed in hospital. He took a biopsy and the results came back as a BCC (the least invasive of skin cancers) but it was nearly full thickness through the skin. He warned me that it was awkward surgery due to the location and depth of the cancer and that I would need to have part of my head shaved.

I had to wait another 2 weeks to see the surgeon at a private clinic. This seemed to be the most excruciating wait and I went through some dark and lonely days. I was so confronted with the diagnosis of a skin cancer at age 33 particularly I think because my mother had died from cancer at a young age and the “C” word put such a great fear in me! The other confronting fact was having to have part of my head shaved for this surgery...vain I know but true!

But God is good. He blessed me with wonderful friends and family who surrounded me with prayer and practical support. Two friends lent me CD’s with worship songs* that helped me immensely. My mother-in-law had also bought us a book on her last visit that had sat on the shelves – but I picked it up and started reading and absorbing the words. This book^ by Joseph Prince spoke so deeply to me that the fear vanished and was replaced with peace – the peace that surpasses understanding! And I had such a new revelation that God is for us not against us, His Grace is sufficient for me, He turns all things to good – I could go on and on!

Well, the day of the consultation with the surgeon drew near and my husband was able to come with me. On examination the surgeon said “this tumour is not as big as the other doctor said – it must have shrunk!” (Kieren saw it on both occasions and can vouch that it did indeed shrink!) So the surgeon was able to remove the tumour THAT DAY in the private clinic rather than having to go to an operating theatre. He said that it was about the maximum size that he would ever remove without going to theatre due to risk of bleeding. But praise God I had less bleeding than from the biopsy! I was a little concerned that the surgeon didn’t get all the cancer cells but should have realised I didn’t need to worry – I received the all clear on Monday! So I still have to wear a head covering but my hair is growing back so fast soon it won’t be noticeable!

A garden tea party....but it rained.

My little Ellie turned 8 in May. For such a fine young lady we were going to have a garden tea party in the park but alas Melbourne decided that winter would begin early and we had to have it inside at home. Nevertheless, these young ladies enjoyed dressing up in frocks, eating scones and sipping (juice) from the best china. Playing many an old-fashioned game with such vigor that Kieren nearly waved his white hankie!! Definitely an afternoon that won't be forgotten in a hurry...Ellie had a ball!

Our games included egg and spoon race, sack race, sardines, the chocolate game, statues, minty wrapper competition and a treasure hunt.

THE BOY learns to clean

I set Jesse free with a vacuum cleaner this morning and he learnt that he HAD to pick up toys before he cleaned. Lesson Learnt! Let THE BOY clean!
(NB the pretend saw in the pocket - you just never know when you need a saw while you're vacuuming)

Seaside.

The Crew!
(ps Jesse is wearing undies...he just saturated his shorts as he waded into the sea)

Boathouse Fun.

Our cappacino lid licking addict ;)

3 girls enjoying a "fairy garden"

Collecting shells...

How cool is this?! A wheelbarrow to cart all the sandcastle and beach cricket stuff to the beach!

Serious gentlemanly conversation.

Love 3 year old boys - these 2 are peas in a pod!

A few weekends ago we took our friends from England down to the beach for a weekend of sun, sand, sea and fun. Fortunately for us we landed the best weekend in a few months - this being the coldest summer we've had since we moved here! We had a really chilled weekend with no driving - only walking to the beach and back. The children had heaps of fun too and want to go back soon!

A painting lesson.

Lesson 1. How much paint to put on your brush!

needing some help...

Concentrating hard....

getting the hang of it!

my first paling to paint!

Here's Kieren and Jesse making a new gate to replace our old one that rotted right off it's hinges! Jesse had a ball. He wants to be with Dad and be like Dad 24/7. He even only wears what Kieren wears now - it's so cute!! He has to wear his Storm pj's to bed and only wears t-shirts and denim shorts during the day. I feel it's going to be a long cold winter for the boy!

a new beginning...

My girls have started at a new school this year which they have settled into SO quickly!! They are loving their teachers, new friends and subjects and seem very happy with the change. Ellie has also started art classes at the local community centre and Abbey started Ballet this week. I am coming to terms with being a taxi service - and now completely understand why my mum made my sister and i do the same activities!!!

Little Tessa has also joined Jesse at Occasional Care one day a week and was SO keen to put her back pack on too and join the big kids!! Her wobbly walk with her big belly was so cute! So there you have it! My little family is growing up way too fast and i'm trying to sneak every cuddle I can out of baby Tessa before she is 2!

A NYE of Olde....

We spent a very HOT (40 deg C) New Years Eve in our backyard with 2 other families - enjoying the bliss of full clean water tanks, a hose, a slide and a wading pool. After 10 years of drought - and my children never knowing the fun of playing with water in the backyard, i decided it was time to show them how WE use to have fun on hot days. I also purchased some cheap spray bottles and filled them with water to squirt everyone with - i think the adults had just as much fun as the children!!! It certainly assisted in staying cool! I did feel sorry for our friends from England - they're first experience of extreme heat!!

We had a cold meal too - it was just too hot to fire up the BBQ. So cold chicken and salads and bread it was! With ice cream cones for dessert of course!!

The Girls took to lying on the trampoline and gazing at the sky trying to see shapes and pictures in the clouds! The Boys spent HOURS on the waterslide and then jumped the girls off the trampoline to play a game of rugby (or similar!!)

Around 9pm when it was starting to get dark we got out some glow sticks (we couldn't use sparklers because of the fire ban and number of children) and put on some music for a dance!! The kids had a ball and the adults were content just to sit and watch!!

FUN FUN FUN!!! Welcome 2011!
