Potatoes anyone?

We planted potatoes back in September when the spring urge made me do crazy thing like hoeing up metres of lawn and planting a kilo of potatoes and all kinds of other vegetables. Unfortunately only the potatoes sprouted (NB to self : raise seeds in punnets first. Do not sow directly into ground for birds). So Thursday the shrubs were looking a bit shrivelled - apparently a sign its time to harvest (see i really don't know much....just making it up as i go!) So we dug and dug and dug and found lots of potatoes and ALL sorts of bugs as well - quite an education for my little city folk! The girls had such a ball they've been asking to "harvest" every day since. Jesse has just been digging up my lawn with a spade ever since! Hmmm I guess i better get cracking with more planting (peas and tomatoes to follow shortly!) oh and anyone got any good recipes to use up over 7kg of potatoes??!! Baked baby potatoes was our first meal and they were YUMMY!!

  1. They look fabulous!!! Did they taste better than the store bought variety?
Well done Christy...I can't wait to get to this stage.
I finally harvested my spring onions the other day (long overdue) and they are actually as big as normal white onions...yet to pass the taste test...I'll let you know!

  2. Wow - what a harvest. My potatoes grew well, but when I went to dig them up there was nothing there :(
Wish I could help you, but don't potatoes last a fair while? They do look delicious!
Enjoy your gardening. The cool weather meant that I put in a whole heap of seeds yesterday, but we shall see how they go - my sis did her whole garden with seeds, but I'm not so confident here.
Have a nice day! Lovely to see your gorgous family - how is Tessa going?
    Renata :)
